The Guam Economic Development Authority presented a check to the Yona Spartans Little League Baseball Team as part of GEDA’s Youth Sports Grant Program established to assist various youth sports groups around the island.
The funds will used to assist the team with costs for entrance fees, uniforms and equipment, according to Team Manager, Eugene Mendiola. “The Spartans Little League is made up of 13 players, ages 9-12. This little league helps our youth by keeping them off the streets and away from gangs, drugs, crime and violence. It gives them challenges, direction, sportsmanship, goals and team building and we thank GEDA for this generous assistance to our youth organization,” said Mendiola.
Deputy Administrator, Mana Silva Taijeron presented the check to the team yesterday. “This is GEDA’s second grant this year to assist our local youth sports programs. We are proud to help the Yona Spartans defray at least some of the costs for uniforms, equipment, fees and field maintenance,” Taijeron stated.
